bezzel1 August 29, 2010 at 7:09 pm

Pendulum ‘Granite’

FiestaNautlisyeahh August 29, 2010 at 7:28 pm

name of the song??

ekuyumcu August 29, 2010 at 8:03 pm

yeah.. the bottom line is cn 50 is NOT faster
which was my point al along

defleppard10294 August 29, 2010 at 8:44 pm

ok yes it might have beaten it over the line but privateer still beat it over all. bottom line

ekuyumcu August 29, 2010 at 9:19 pm

yeah, I now.I said that 10 threads ago.08 Newport race open class 19 handicap winner , because cn 50 is a handicap racer puma is a box rule racer.. that deosnt mean its faster it just means it has better rating according to its speed. if u check the actual race results il mostro finished 18 hours before privateer! you can also see that the real speedboat even finished it faster in real time from il mostro by 5 hours.and in corrected time privateer passed puma by a lucky 20 min in a 70 hour race

defleppard10294 August 29, 2010 at 9:25 pm

ok just found this on the cookson website: 6. Cookson 50 winner of Open Division in Newport Race
(News/Latest News)
Privateer, a Cookson 50 owned by Ronald OHanley of Boston Massachusetts, is now the provisional winner of the Open Division in the Newport Bermuda Race ahead of Pumas Volvo 70 Il Mostro

ekuyumcu August 29, 2010 at 9:54 pm

either say something factual or just admit the reality.. A canted keel out of the water is not a bad thing for a VO70 keel bc it doesnt get the righting moment from the keel strake area it gets it from the massive 4.5 ton keel bulb, when it is out ofthe water , it means less wetted surface area, but the canard does that job so its all good. so what you are saying is that a boat that is designed to race 40000miles at every single wind angle and speed cant go upwind?fyi VO70 CAN do 11+knots upwind

defleppard10294 August 29, 2010 at 9:56 pm

ok on the wind a vo70 isnt very good if the keel is canted out and the dagger boards only help a little bit. the cn50 would have great upwind capabilities and would have a handicap rating of some sort. im not sure where or what race it was it in but i know for a fact that it happened

ekuyumcu August 29, 2010 at 10:34 pm

please enlighten me, which cookson 50 beat Puma one on one in which race? The only way that I see that happening is Puma being sailed by pigs (actual pink pigs) or you are talking about a result of an IRC/ORC whatever handicap system correction result they were racing in. Which brings out the case.. cookson 50 is a handicap boat, VO70 is not, its a box rule class boat that is designed for pure speed, which makes the rating of Puma out the roof.. Theoratically one on one beat is impossible!

defleppard10294 August 29, 2010 at 10:42 pm

yeah soz i just found out that the cn50 wasnt called speedboat. but it still bet puma though

ekuyumcu August 29, 2010 at 11:31 pm

please stop saying that speedboat is a cookson 50.. go to cookson s website, google it , check it on uanyachtdesign, com , do something but stop calling speedboat a cn50 ( its just an insult to the boat )

defleppard10294 August 29, 2010 at 11:41 pm

yeah except that speedboat (cn50) cost like 6million to build. and if a javelin can out run a farr727 then a cn50 could out run a vo70/60 (on the wind maybe but defenitly not downwind)

ekuyumcu August 30, 2010 at 12:12 am

listen! I dont have anything against cookson boats, I love them! I dream the day that I own one.. I just wanted to spread the knowledge.. a brand new cookson 50 is about 800.000euros where a “SPEEDBOAT” is like 20 million euros.. its imossible to beat PUMA or any other VO70 and even Vold VO 60′s with a cookson50 , one on one…

defleppard10294 August 30, 2010 at 12:35 am

yes but the cn50 is a fully striped all carbon racer with great upwind capabilities that cost multi multi millions to build

ekuyumcu August 30, 2010 at 12:36 am

dont get me wrong,I dont want to insult you or anything, but what I m trying to say is tht there are VERY few boats that can mach up with a VO70.super maxi race yachts such as Leopard ICAP, speedboat, alfaromeo, etc are the only ones that might have a fighting chance over these boats ,and luckily speedboat took that in Newport bermuda race in 08, not in a match race.the thing is,its just impossible to beat it buy a cookson50 that us immortals can buy, unless you have multi million $’s for “fun”

defleppard10294 August 30, 2010 at 12:56 am

ok we are thinking of different boats but im sure more than 1 yacht with the name speedboat has beaten puma :)

ekuyumcu August 30, 2010 at 1:24 am

That might be because SPEEDBOAT is not a cookson 50 but a 30 meter canting keel custom “speed boat” with internal ballast that was designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian to break records, not to race in a box rule. It is now Richard Branson’s new toy trying to break Atlantic Passage record(failed in first attempt) and named “Virgin Money”

defleppard10294 August 30, 2010 at 1:41 am

the boat looks awesome BUT a new zealand designed and built cookson 50 racing yacht called SPEEDBOAT beat puma in a match race.

fabriciobraga August 30, 2010 at 1:48 am

bigstick4life August 30, 2010 at 4:02 am

wait till u see a shaw 30 cainter you will be going down a swell with no back stay on with the big chute up when a 40 knot gust hits you the fore stays like a banana. the bows out of the water and the boat just wipes out at the bottom. weve done all this with a guy up the rig he had to swim bback to the boat.
